Because I moved to West Philly in 2016, I never got to go to the old Million Dollars discount shop which was on the corner of 52nd and Baltimore. I pass the building every day, though. I love the name, I love the font, and no disrespect to ghost signs intended, I love the saturation.
This is my favorite building, but once you are looking for inspiration you will notice beautiful signs everywhere. Just make sure you snap a picture-I learned that the hard way when my favorite beer store “upgraded” their old hanging sign.
Materials:
- Tote bag- I like having a smaller tote in the mix
- Painter’s masking tape
- Yellow fabric paint- regular acrylic paint might work, but I used fabric paint by Tulip.
- Paint Brush
- Scissors
Process:
- Mask the outlines of the letters in painters tape onto the tote bag. Do the whole phrase at once, so that you are sure it is centered. You may need to use scissors to cut small angles and curves.
- Dab the fabric paint onto tote bag. You will notice on mine that the paint bled a little bit under the tape. If you are concerned about that make sure the tape is down real good, and do a couple thinner layers of paint rather than one thick layer.
- Remove the painters tape after the paint is dry.
