Bacterial Vaginosis: Diagnosis & Cure Earrings

Gram staining, the process of putting dye onto a slide to identify bacteria, makes the BV/gardnerella appear as purple dots. I’m hopeless at reading the slides under microscope, but I love the process of dropping crystal violet and iodine.

The slides are made with Shrinky Dink drawn on with sharpie marker prior to shrink, and coated with a crystal clear acrylic. Bacterial Vaginosis is often treated with oral Flagyl, so I made polymer clay beads to represent the treatment.

I referred heavily to Fun With Microbiology-a blog that we actually used a lot at work as a reference to for identifying vaginal flora (I don’t, because again, I’m useless with a microscope). I also accepted advice from my co-worker Leah, who seemed fine with talkin&#39 epithelial off the clock.
